I always talk about my workouts which are always great most of the time. However, I believe in some sort of balance as well. I believe in learning continuously. Growing in all aspects of our lives is important. If you are not learning and growing, you are merely existing. This is why I enjoy reading books to help me do just that, learn. I get to hear about the experiences of others who came before me, who are successful in their chosen fields. We can always take away a lesion or two from others who have made mistakes and surmounted their challenges to reach their desired goal and achievements.
We all can improve something in our own lives. However, you have to care enough to change what it is you want to improve on. Some people are satisfied with the status quo. Several years back, I was one of those people who lived on auto-pilot and was numb to life. Until one day I realize I no longer recognize the person looking back at me in the mirror. At that moment I knew I had to change somethings in my life. I knew wanted to change but did not know where to start.
I was embarrassed to even ask for help. I love to read, but up to this point all I ever read was computer books and technical how to books that helped me stay marketable and was very instrumental in me earning a living. However, it did little any other area of my life. Then it hit me. I learned all these computer skills through reading. I can surely learn how to change my life through reading as well.
I went to barns and noble and sort out a book and can emerge myself in for the next week or so. I couldn’t make up my mind on a book and left the store with nothing in hand. I figured I can go online and find something that would resonate with me and how I felt. I scoured the internet and discovered what so many of you knew already. While on the Youtube site, I started listening to Jim Rohn video and knew from that morning I will get his books to start with. But, I purchased the audio instead.
I heard something Jim Rohn said that stayed with me to this day. “For things to change, you have to change”. I stopped the cd and let that sink in. Something so simple can be so profound and change your life. What an amazing thing. If there is something in your life you are not happy with you don’t have to accept it. You can change.
Then with my thoughts and reasonings, I said what about the things you really cannot change at the moment due to circumstances out of your control. There is something you can still do that will impact the situation a great deal, and that to adjust your attitude about the situation. Change the way you see it and change the way you feel about it. See, I realized, I no longer have to imprison myself with my own limiting beliefs. I can CHANGE how I see myself. Change starts on the inside. You have to be able to see how wonderful you are and how blessed the world is for having you in it.
So, if things have been spiraling out of control and you want it to stop. Know this, you have to stop it. You have to be the one who stops the cycle. It’s just like the old saying, you can feed a man when he is hungry. But, if you teach him how to fish, you can be instrumental in feeding him for a life time. I can help put the band aid on to temporarily address the wound but you will be responsible to keep it clean and address the would until it heals. If you want to change an aspect in your life get help from someone who has been there and done that.
