What good book are you reading right now?

I find it amazing how simple it is to be wholly immersed in a good read. Don’t you? Wait, I am assuming you love to read. If you don’t, that’s ok. I am not judging here. There are times when I do get a little down and will not pick up a book but take to the television and binge watch some show. However, for the most part, I enjoy reading and writing.

Reading allows me to see the writer’s point of view on a certain perspective on a particular topic or life in general. I love the WordPress platform, and as long as they keep growing and evolving, I see myself being a part of this platform for a very long time.

Why the question in my headline? I am interested in building a mastermind group interested in changing their life through the power of learning new skills and concepts via reading an excellent instructional book. There are thousands of books from which to start. So how do you know what book to begin with? That is a great question. I guess that depends on what areas in your life you would like to make changes to first.

Who is up for a challenge?

I am willing to start right where you are at. But, I am looking for a few good people ready to take their lives to the next level. Someone who will be dedicated to their cause to make the sacrifices that come with exiting the comfort zone in their life. Are you that person?

Restarting A Stalled Engine

 

 

 

Losing weight has been a journey for me for the past ten years.  It’s true!  I have lost weight and regained weight only to lose it again.  When I gain weight, I am seriously under a great deal of stress in my life.  Learning what triggers the weight gain process in my life should give me an edge to change that behavior when I am stressed.   It appears to be easy; however, implementing strategies of what to do when I am stressed remains to be seen.

The Light Bulb Moment

Have you ever felt you had everything in control only to find out later you did not?  Yes!  The reckoning.  Knowing you have a problem and figuring out a way to tackle that issue productively is critical.  Drilling down to the issues at hand will be a key factor in restarting a stalled engine.  The word engine is being used here metaphorically to encompass various indicators that may have caused one who is going through a difficult time in their life.Final Expense

We Need To Write Down What We Feel

Why write? To write down how we feel is therapeutic and necessary to hone in on what may be the key reason we are feeling a certain way. Let me use myself here as an example.  Below are some of the things I am experiencing and feeling the weight of life on my shoulders.

A sense of Loss – I, like so many others, have lost many family members.  However, the loss of my sister affected me in ways I have never felt before. My wife has suffered several heart attacks within the past couple of years. Learning how to deal with this has been a process.  To make matters worse, my wife of twenty-four years is on limited time here before she goes home to heaven.  The doctors have extended her life another year, and hopefully, many more to come.  Since she has a lease on life, I want to cherish every moment with her but find it difficult because she is always in pain and has constant trouble breathing because she suffers from congested heart failure.

I am being strong for her making sure she has everything she needs to the best of my own ability.   Knowing all of this, I have turned to heavy prayer.  Becoming a prayer warrior for my wife.  God has a plan, and I know he will not give me more than I can handle.  I also know I am equipped with God’s grace to handle this.  However, I am not naive either.  I know that I am not perfect and still have shortcomings as a person.  You are probably wondering, what does all this have to do with losing weight?  I have noticed I stress eat and realize I am still mourning, and I am afraid of losing my wife.

Keeping my emotions in check to function and be productive to earn a living still to care for my wife is more challenging.  There are times I don’t even want to get out of bed in the morning.  That is the weight that tries to drag me down.  When I feel like this, I still get up and say my prayers and write in my journal telling myself that I am blessed to be alive, and I look for ways I can help others as well.  I ask God to use me to be a blessing to others.   I write down how God has answered my prayers and know he is in control; he is at the helm of my faith and Jesus the foundation, my rock, and my salvation.  This helps me to restart the engine that has stalled.

The Process of Rebuilding

Everything is a process.  So how do I rebuild?  Take one day at a time and feed my mind with the word of God and good information that will benefit me and ultimately be a blessing to others.  I get on the treadmill and walk for fifteen minutes.  I pick up a dumbbell and perform curls.  Walk and get some fresh air.  Pick up a health journal and read the benefits of being healthy.  Read stories of those who have survived unthinkable circumstances and realize my issue is small in comparison.  When I awake in the morning, I am grateful for being able to live another day.  Being grateful is a state of my I choose because it is a choice.

I am only human and imperfect.  There are times I choose not to be upbeat, sad, motivated, or inspired.  Hence the reason for this article.  I will leave you with this; there are going to be times of dismay in our lives.  There will be times we feel we can’t go on, or what we may be dealing with is insurmountable. The storms in life are not permanent.  When the clouds dissipate, we will again be able to enjoy the sunshine. Given time, whatever storm you are experiencing in your life, this too shall pass.   What does not destroy you will only make you stronger.  You may not understand it; you may not see it through the pain.  Allow time to work its magic, and you will again feel whole, stronger, more confident.  Your storm in life will refine you into a better person.

 

 

 

Making Change A Lifestyle

Are you stuck in the same old routine where you go about the day on autopilot?  We must remember there are many ways we can spice up our day through avenues of change.  Integrate something new, tweaking a behavior, or incorporating something to enhance sales, production, or quality.

There is nothing better than the incredible feeling of accomplishment for something you have worked extremely hard to accomplish.  I want you to think back for a moment.  What was a significant achievement in your life?  Why? 

I believe the more significant the sacrifice, the extensive the reward, and the sense of appreciation of that accomplishment.  It gives credence and value to the process and results.  Let us dive a little deeper.  Let us say you failed at something for argument’s sake.  The first thing one must do is take ownership. You must recognize this is your journey and all the moving parts including the results are merely by-products of your decisions.

Take Responsibility for Mistakes and Failures

Instead of blaming anything or anyone for the outcome. Find what decision lead you down the path of the result.  By incorporation daily journals or notations help with you not only staying on tract and focused.  It allows you to help tweak what may not be working early and make the necessary corrections to continue in the right direction.  Thus, making a change a lifestyle.

Making Changes Every Day

In life, we are constantly making changes and decisions every day.  From the moment you wake up and get out of bed.  You have made a choice and a decision to move forward.  You can always choose to stay in bed, as many of us desire to do so, from time to time. 

However, we make choices on autopilot too which sometimes can make the beginning so monotonous.  There are some people who drive the same way to work for years without ever altering their routes.  Leaving a little earlier to take a route to work can sometimes allow you to see new things and even opportunities you would have missed had you continued with the same tired autopilot routine.

Some people who never smile but are always serious are also more stressed than that of a person who find reasons to smile more often.  When you smile it releases neuropeptides which can help improve your mood, productivity, better relationships.  If you take it a step further and if laugh it releases endorphins in the brain which can make you feel good, help relieve minor pain and much more.

Making a lifestyle change is forever evolving to optimize your life and what happens in your life.  We as humans, have ability to change in an instant through choice.  Once the decision is made to alter our behavior, we must be dedicated to stay focus so that the goals we are seeking can come to fruition.

Changes Are All Around Us

Some people do not like change at all.  However, they are part of change whether they want to change or not.  Take time for example; it is always changing and moving from second to second, to minute to minute, and hour to hour.   With time we are always changing, by becoming older by the hour, month, and years.  We cannot alter or control time, we can only control what we do with the time we have.  Time allows us to reflect on past events, activities, feelings, along with out actions at a particular moment in time.  With the transition in time, we can make adjustments, change our habits, our behavior, create goals by setting a new course in the transition of future time.  Making change a lifestyle for good.

Preparing For Old Age While Living In The Present

I am constantly learning about my own limits and the constant changes to my body as I am slowly approaching age sixty in a couple of years.  Desire to lose weight, working out, and watching what I eat is not the only thing I must be aware of.  I must also pay close attention to the changes in my body and the new limits that are set by aging.

Our mind does not age as fast as our bodies.  When it comes to age, our minds can be deceiving, which most of the time can be a very good thing.  We all heard the old saying, “Age is just a number.”  When it comes to the mind it’s true.  However, the vessel that houses the mind says something different.

Preparing for old age while living in the present can be provide us with a wakeup call.  As our bodies start to deteriorate our mind appears not to age at all.  Of course, that is how I feel at least.  I notice the older that I get, my mind says I am able to do something until the limitations of my body counter acts with a severe shot of reality to my mind halts or slow down my progress.

The older I get, the more I feel I am running out of time.  I know I cannot be the only one who feels this way and can only imagine there are so many people who feel this way as well.  When we are young we feel invincible, but when we are in our middle age we start to shift our perspective with an emphasis on living longer and having an income to provide us to live comfortable in our golden years.

We also start to take more stock in our health, what we eat, what we put in our bodies, and how simple things that we do or normally take for granted becomes a little challenging to do as we age.  Then we notice things are changing for us.  Our vessels are aging and for some of us, our past of doing harmful things to our bodies come back to haunt us, as we pay the price of bad decisions and wished we had listen to those around us who warned us we should stop doing was it was that was harmful and may cause adverse effects on our bodies in the future.

It’s like playing catch-up, but the damage is already done.  We cannot change the past, but we can control we do for the future to mitigate the deteriorating effects of aging with a less stressful life that includes a healthier outlook on the rest of our life.  In order to do this, we must maintain a good balance in our life.  Something I am still working on myself.

Balance is easily said and a little more difficult to do.   I admire those who can seemly do this with out any thought at all. It comes so natural for them.  They are surrounded by family who love them, friends who admire and adore them.  They have good health, a healthy financial life, good careers and hobbies, a spiritual balance of belief, and a great sense of who they are, which helps them live a fulfilling long life.

At the end, that’s what it’s all about.  Having a sense of gratitude and a sense of establishment having contributed to society as well as enriching the lives that we encounter.  Servicing our ultimate purpose for being here as we shared our god giving talents, gifts, compassion, and love. So that as we lived, we may leave knowing we accomplished what we set out to accomplish with no regrets.

Where Warriors Meet

Today I am up with an early start and back at the office.  Yes!!!  Time to work out.  This feels like a long awaited moment with all the hype and expectations, all the trash talk and the legacy two warriors about the meet for the first time with one massive explosion of talent and in the end when all the dust settles, when all the blood sweat and tears hit the canvas. There will be only one WARRIOR standing.

It’s that time again. You guessed it!  It is time to hit the office and put in work.  You know that great part about putting in the work.  You get to grow as a person, you get to feel what’s it’s like to work hard for something. Sure there are times you feel discouraged but you put in the work anyway, and in you get to see what you are made.

There may be times when you feel down and out and you hear that voice inside you that won’t let you quit. This allows you to grow in strength and integrity. There are even times where life derails you but the champion in you finds the correct detour to get back on the track of success.  This is when you let that fire in your belly burn, the urge to succeed takes over and keeps you on course.  This is what solidifies YOU as the WINNER YOU ARE!

It doesn’t matter what you are trying to achieve in life, if you truly want it go get it.

I Constanly Look To Improve

Explosive day at the office!

I will be looking at maximizing my workout time to burn as many calories in a workout as I possibly can. Then I will start watching what I eat and to be sure to consume 2600 calories a day per my friend who is a nutritionist and advised me to do.

The reason for the change is I noticed my heart is in the right lane but I lack the ability to effective create the desire change I so desperately seek. I have already started this regiment and have notice some changes just within the several days I have been trying this.

You know, that got me thinking. Sometimes it’s good to acquire or enlist the help of someone who is very successful at what you are trying to achieve. If I can do this about with health, I can certainly do this spiritually, financially, and academically. This is a great way to achieve faster results and learn how to avoid the pitfalls they have encountered. In essence, we can learn from other people’s success, failures and forge our own success with all of our hard work.

I guess we must be certain of what we want out of life to forge a clear and laser focused path to our desire results. Are you sure you are on the correct path or are you doing what you think is expected of you?

I talk a lot about passion because so many people are not doing what they are truly passionate about. I for one can attest to this because I am passionate about writing, encouraging, motivating others through my writings. That is the reason I write here every day.

Enough about me.

Start asking yourself life changing questions. Am I living in the house I imagined? Have I travels to all the destinations I wanted to? Does my life reflect my imagination? Have I lived up to my own expectations, or can I achieve more out of life? If not, WHY?

(Personal note, these are questions I have asked myself just over six months ago. I feel my life changing for the better for having asked and responded.)

Startling Facts About My Bad Habit

In a world where there is an abundance of food choices we can only imagine the temptation that accompanies a variety of delicious cuisines.  I for one love sweets and is tempted every to engage my taste buds with mouthwatering chocolate delights that seem to light up my day.  Yes!  Light up my day!

I am all smiles when I have my daily dose of chocolate and it appears I can handle just about anything that comes my way.  Crazy right?   Well, I discovered that we are capable of believing in some silly ideas about all sorts of little quirks and habits that we have formed over the years.  We even have our very own personal data to back of what we believe it to be factual.  The truth of the matter is our habits are just that habits.

Whether you are junk food junkie or sweet fanatic like I am, or perhaps have to have a couple glasses of wine or a couple of bottles of bear every day, there’s no harm in that right?  It’s just the opposite; you are forgetting about the power of compounding effects over time.  So, I set out to find out some basic facts of why I should stop eating so much chocolate or simply stop eating it all together.  Let’s face it, if I don’t find out about everything I intake or ingest into my body.   I am only kidding myself to think I can become healthier while slowly and methodically killing myself through choices I have made over time.

Let’s take my own habit Three cookies a day, let me digress a moment to inject this thought.  We are creatures of habit, some of have more habits then others and we trade one habit for another.  The key is to trade bad habits for good ones, so keep that in mind.

My three cookies a day cannot be that harmful I thought.  But, it can depending on what could be happening with the physiology make up internally that I cannot see.  Let me explain.   Chocolate is high in calories and leads to weight gain.  I go to subway every day to purchase those wonderful mouthwatering chocolate wonders which for on cooking has 220 calories.  (3 cookies x 220 = 660 calories)  Talk about shooting yourself in the foot this is ridiculous.  That is why it’s taking me so long to lose the weight.

Chocolate is also high in sugar and too much sugar over time can lead to becoming a diabetic.  Remember the compound effect is at work here.  So, I know what you are saying, 3 cookies are not that bad, so let me break this insane idea down for your further.

3 cookies = 660 calories a day!    660 x 30 = 19,800 calories a month!  19,800 x 12 = 237,600 a year!

Insane right! Not Even!  I been doing this for five years I have been working on my job so let’s do one more fact.

237,600 x 5 = 1,188,000 THAT’S INSANE!!!

Well I know what I have to do from this point on, do you?

What is it that you harmlessly consume?  Have you seen some of the learn term effects of what alcohol does to the pancreas, liver, or kidneys?  Not to mention the brain. The same with smoking.  All I am saying is think about your bad habits and start replacing them with good ones.

  • Cirrhosis

Pancreas:
Alcohol causes the pancreas to produce toxic substances that can eventually lead to pancreatitis, a dangerous inflammation and swelling of the blood vessels in the pancreas that prevents proper digestion.

Cancer:
Drinking too much alcohol can increase your risk of developing certain cancers, including cancers of the:

  • Mouth
  • Esophagus
  • Throat
  • Liver
  • Breast

I Believe In You

You know, I believe in many things and have faith in so much that I never really gave it thought to just how much faith I have in things. Let me explain; I take it for granted that I will wake up in the morning and go about my day. Sure I awake in the morning and the first thing I do is give thanks to my God for allowing me to rise and be blessed to use all my faculties. I go about my morning routine and when I’m done I get in my car and have faith it will get me to destination A and B without incident. I take it you do too.

I believe all drivers do. It’s not as if we wake up anticipating something bad will happen. We go on the assumption all will be ok, or we believe or have faith that we will get to destination A and back without anything incidents occurring. For the most part nothing happens. Or perhaps it does. We believe, have faith, or assume we will be successful in the drive that it becomes second nature and we drive without giving it thought because we are sure in our ability not only to drive well enough four ourselves but through our experience driving we have become skilled enough to drive defenselessly to avoid disaster or an accident as best we can.

Think about this for a moment. When you first started driving you weren’t confident, you were apprehensive about certain maneuvers, a little on edge and excited but as time passed on you were in your groove and comfortable driving by yourself and with others.

If you can give that much faith, trust and belief in driving you can do that with anything you desire to do or be in life. You can become what every you want, achieve the impossible and like driving, at first you will be uncomfortable, uncertain, and perhaps a little afraid. However, if you keep striving to be all that God intended you to be you will discover you were created to do extraordinary things in life that you would had never imagine if you did not decide to get behind the wheel of life and drive to your ultimate destination of success. I believe in you, do you believe in you? Make sure you signal to the right lane that lead to your success today!
